Hello Friends,

I hope your tables have been full of laughter and connection and your meals have been full of meaning in this last season. This hiatus for Ogo has been both necessary and bittersweet. As some of you may know, I have been diagnosed with a degenerative joint disorder and significant hip/lower back pain. It has specifically affects me when I'm cooking for long periods of time.

However, my passion for the table and interest in helping people find meaning around it is as alive as ever. So I'm going to try something a little different for this holiday season:

Ogo Initaitive is bringing wine education into your dining rooms. We are taking Jeroboam's Underground Wine Club on the road, with opportunities to expand your wine knowledge and experience in the comfort of your own home. Gather a group of family & friends, anywhere from 4-40, and we will create a custom wine class for you and your friends.

The typical class lasts 3-4 hours and includes three sections:

The first section will be about the vine and particular grapes we are drinking. Here we will learn how to go through the tasting process, pick out particular elements of the wine, and begin to form opinions about common components we appreciate most in our wines.

The second section will be about terroir, or the place that the grape is grown. Here we will learn some basic geography, some affects of climate, soil and vintage on the wine, and how you can pick this up in your tasting. You will learn what kind of environment the grape grows best in, where else in the world it is found, and how to pick the best bottle off of a wine list.

The third section will be about taste pairings. We will explore the relationship with wine and cheese, how to pair these wines with appropriate foods, and how to build a wine dinner around wines you want to feature.

This class is informal in nature, and we will be tasting wines throughout all three sections of the class. The cost is $50/person with a 4 person minimum, and all of the wines and cheese trays are included in the cost of the class. There will be question and answer throughout and the whole event is discussion based. The class is customized to each client, and the wine types will be selected in cooperation with the host prior to the event.

It is important to note that this is not a wine dinner. We will be serving very little food, and pouring tasting portions of each wine. Spittoons will be made available. This allows us to experience more wines and cover more ground in our discussion.

If you are interested in booking a class this season, please contact me at ben@ogoinitiative.com as soon as possible. Dates fill fast for these events, especially on the weekends. This is a great gift for people that already have everything, and a great excuse to get together with friends or family for a holiday get together.
